Vital Ground evolved from a unique relationship between man and bear. Doug Seus and his wife, Lynne, raised and trained a Kodiak brown bear named Bart to appear in feature films which include "The Great Outdoors," "Legends of the Fall," "The Bear" and "The Edge." As Doug and Lynne worked with Bart, it became clear that he was teaching them far more than they could ever teach him.
Inspired by Bart, the Seuses launched Vital Ground through the purchase of 240 acres of prime grizzly bear habitat adjoining protected land in Pine Butte Preserve along Montana's eastern front of the Rocky Mountains. Bart took on an important new role as Ambassador for Vital Ground, and until his death in 2000, his public appearances with Doug and Lynne sought to convey the dire predicament of our rapidly diminishing natural areas - along with their resident wildlife - while promoting a message of hope that we might become better stewards of these great lands. The House of FINE ART Presents
Special screenings of Animal Planet's
Growing Up Grizzly 2
hosted by Jennifer Aniston
Animal Planet follows the lives of two orphaned Alaskan Grizzlies, Bart the Bear 2
and Honey-Bump Bear,
who starred in the original Growing up Grizzly. After a hunter killed the cubs' mother, the Seuses of northern
Utah adopted the brother and sister. Honey-Bump and Bart are now three years old and quite an awesome presence
on screen, weighing in at 800 and 1,100 pounds, respectively. Jennifer Aniston narrates this hour-long documentary,
in which you witness first hand the interactions between the bear siblings and their new parents, Lynne and Doug Seus.
We get to follow this amazing family to their home, movie sets and a picnic atop a remote mountain in Utah. More
importantly, we are offered a closer look at Bart's and Honey-Bump's wild cousins and some of the ways Vital Ground
is involved in saving their habitat - their homes.
Special screenings will be held throughout the summer. Please check back for dates
and times or email penny@houseoffineart.com
for more information. Also, please check your local listings for air dates on Animal Planet.
